R&Co is an agency full of dog lovers and veterinary PR experts, so we were delighted to start working with Romanian charity, Adapostul Speranta, which translates to The Hope Shelter.
Along with providing PR, SEO and social media support to spread word in the UK of Speranta’s work, we wanted to use the festive season to do something extra special for this amazing charity – whose work we were lucky enough to see in person when our team visited Bucharest.
We will be spreading festive cheer by displaying a Speranta-themed tree at Leamington’s annual Christmas Tree Festival in the hope of raising donations and awareness.
Speranta rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes dogs across Romania, and is home to some 500 former strays, including elderly and disabled dogs. It has a focus on education and sterilisation to improve the overall situation in the country, which is believed to be home to between 500,000 and one million strays.
Raising awareness of Speranta Shelter
The R&Co team has created the ‘Tree of Hope for Speranta’s Dogs’ in a bid to raise awareness and donations for the Romanian charity in our agency’s hometown of Leamington.
The tree is decorated in the colours of the Romanian flag (red, blue and yellow, if you didn’t know!) and features baubles with QR codes to find out more about the shelter’s dogs.
The tree will be one of 60 decorated by local businesses, charities, schools and groups and will be on display at All Saints Parish Church from 30 November to 7 December.
Meet the dogs of Speranta Shelter
Speranta Shelter is home to hundreds of dogs, from puppies to seniors and even disabled dogs who now require the use of wheelchairs.
While many of its dogs are rehomed to loving families in Romania, some of the former strays will live out their life in the shelter.
Far from being locked in a kennel all day, the dogs are taken on walks off site and also enjoy play areas and doggy swimming pools. The shelter is also home to a dedicated vet clinic, physiotherapy suite and a has its own behaviourist.
We’ll be including dogs of every shape, size and breed as part of our Christmas campaign. Here’s just some of the dogs we’re hoping to find sponsorship for:
Bella
Sweet Bella is a lucky little dog. She was found with a badly damaged leg, which her former owner wanted to ‘amputate’ with an axe. Speranta Shelter managed to save her just in time, and its veterinary team carried out an operation to amputate her leg at our onsite clinic. Now she is one of the resident ‘tripod’ dogs and lives safe and loved at the shelter. Bella is looking for a sponsor to help cover the costs of her special care.
Tuta
Don’t let Tuta’s puppy dog eyes fool you – she’s actually nine years old! She loves nothing more than a fuss and being centre of attention. Her carers describe her as gentle, playful and generous and say she loves interacting with people.
Agripina
Brave Agripina is a symbol of resilience at Speranta. She was found in a terrible state in an area just outside Bucharest, and while we don’t know what happened to her, it’s clear she has experienced some trauma. She is very scared of people, but the team at Speranta are giving her everything she needs to trust again – time, patience and affection. She needs a sponsor to cover her food, medical costs and ongoing behavioural support.
Bobo
This distinguished older gentleman is 19-years-young. He’s a little bit grumpy, likes his routine, peace and quiet, and don’t even think about serving his dinner anything less than right on time. He keeps his circle of trust small, and if he decides he likes you then you’re part of a very exclusive club!
This cranky but lovable old dog would love a sponsor to help support him with good food, medication and a calm, cosy life for the rest of his days.
Magnus
This 13-year-old golden oldie is your typical, loving Labrador.
Goofy, greedy, handsome, devoted and easy-going, and loves nothing more than tucking into a delicious treat!
Why R&Co is supporting Speranta Shelter this Christmas
R&Co managing director, Peter Robinson, said: “We are delighted to be working with such an amazing charity and helping spread news of its incredible work. It was great for the team to visit the shelter and see first-hand the difference Speranta makes to the dogs that its team care for.
“We will work hard to ensure we deliver outstanding results for not only the team, but the wonderful animals in their care. This work started with our visit to Romania, and we’re looking forward to continuing to show our support over the festive season by spreading the Speranta name in the West Midlands and beyond!”
