Magazine Case Study: Modernising Corporate Communications

Builders in hard hats and high vis reading magazine on site

Full design refresh

Design, artwork, copy and project management

Increased engagement

THE CLIENT

William Davis Homes is a housebuilder which has been in business for more than 90 years. The company builds new homes across the East and West Midlands.

THE CHALLENGE

William Davis has created its own internal staff magazine – Insite – annually for decades.

The magazine is sent out by post to every member of staff – from tradespeople on its building sites, to members of the various teams in its head office – to update them on the company’s news and vision for the year ahead.

R&Co’s PR team were asked to give the magazine a complete refresh for the company’s 90th anniversary, with new content, design and photography.

OUR APPROACH

The client asked us to create a modern ‘coffee table’ magazine which was more like a lifestyle magazine than a corporate document.

To achieve this, we developed a new tone of voice that was more suited to the refreshed feel of the magazine.

Our copy had a tone which was friendly while professional and accessible, and we included first-person pieces throughout.

We cut back word counts, while ensuring that articles in the magazine covered all the important information the client wanted to convey to its team of around 300 people.

Our property PR specialists also reviewed the physical archives of Insite to pull out content that could be reproduced to cover the heritage messaging of the 90th anniversary.

THE RESULTS

The finished 44-page magazine was modern in style and featured personable, concise and inclusive content.

To date, 800 printed copies of Insite 2025 have been distributed and the digital version has been downloaded 180 times.

The new-look magazine was well received by the William Davis team, and we have since produced a further edition of the magazine.

Working with the client, we commissioned photography of on-site teams reading the magazine to promote the new edition being published on LinkedIn.

The post achieved 4,573 impressions and a 12.77% click-through rate.

Read the 2025 edition of Insite.

“Insite has been transformed from a traditionally text heavy format into a bright, modern magazine that communicates key messages with clarity, confidence and a notably lighter touch.

“Essential company updates were delivered in a way that feels engaging and accessible, without compromising on substance.

“We couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Sarah Adul, Head of Marketing, William Davis Homes
