Don’t expect AI in search to go anywhere! OpenAI is dipping its toes into the Search Engine world, and Google is seeing improvements in user satisfaction.

- Variety of services and information
- Freshness of content
OpenAI - SearchGPT
A new search prototype has been launched by OpenAI, called SearchGPT.
SearchGPT aims to directly answer user questions by combining AI language models with real-time web information. But is it too little too late? With Google’s new AI search features, will users make the conscious decision to move from Google to a new search engine?
The key benefit of SearchGPT is the easy follow-up questions to your search, so it still works in the same conversational way ChatGPT does, but in a web search format.
Social Media
There’s been big updates over the past week for Reddit, Meta and TikTok, all of which will change the platforms in diverse ways.
Meta
Meta’s AI Chatbot has been expanded to more regions, as well as some new added functionality despite the challenges posed by the EU.
The new regions to get the latest access to Meta’s in-app chatbot are Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Cameroon. Additionally, users can also now prompt the bot in seven new languages: French, German, Hindi, Hindi-Romanized Script, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
While you may not have used Meta’s AI yet, it is on track to be the most used AI assistant, which isn’t surprising considering Meta’s platforms combined have roughly 3.5 billion monthly users globally.
Meta users can also now create AI images of themselves, as explained by Meta:
“Have you ever dreamed of being a superhero, a rockstar or a professional athlete? Now, you can see yourself in a whole new light with “Imagine me” prompts in Meta AI – a feature we’re starting to roll out in beta in the US to start. Imagine yourself creates images based on a photo of you and a prompt like ‘Imagine me surfing’ or ‘Imagine me on a beach vacation’ using our new ultramodern personalisation model.”
New editing tools have also been launched for Meta’s Generative AI tools, so you can customise them as they’re created, and remove aspects of the images you don’t like. Meta explained: “You could say “Imagine a cat snorkelling in a goldfish bowl” and then decide you want it to be a corgi. So, you’d simply write “Change the cat to a corgi” to adjust the image. And next month, you’ll see the addition of an Edit with AI button that you can use to fine tune your imagined images even further.”
Meta also gives users the ability to add an AI-generated image to their Facebook posts. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of AI, especially when it is used to replace art, or human experiences. For me, adding this choice means you’ll see an increase of AI images on your feed, and less images of an authentic experience your friends may have had.
Reddit has expanded its campaign options and has finally launched Lead Generation ads.
They work in the same way as LinkedIn and Meta and allow redditors to opt into providing advertisers with key information, such as their name or email address, without leaving the platform.
Lauren Kroll, Reddit’s product marketing anager, Ads UX, said: “This powerful new ad format, coupled with our integration with leading AI automation platform Zapier, empowers businesses to collect high-quality leads from Reddit’s engaged and high-intent users more efficiently than ever before.
“We know that people come to the platform with an information-seeking mindset, making it the ideal environment for brands to connect with potential customers.”
TikTok
Exciting news for any TikTok creators out there, with TikTok adding the possibility to upload custom thumbnail images to your posts.
Although they’re vastly different platforms in many ways, thumbnails on YouTube make an enormous difference in performance. YouTubers like MrBeast have spent lots nailing their thumbnails and ensuring they appeal to their audience.
While videos autoplay as you’re scrolling, clicking on a user’s profile to see more of their videos always looks messy.
Having thumbnails that are optimised for your audience and allows users to see a quick overview of what your posts are about, should in theory improve your performance.
