Google’s AI in Search continues

Google is adding three new AI features in the US to make browsing even more helpful, with a wider rollout expected to land shortly after.

Firstly, Google Lens, a feature that allows you to search what you see on your phone, comes to your desktop browser. This means you’ll be able to easily select, search and ask questions about anything you see on the web, all without leaving your current tab.

You’ll now be able to compare products across sites with ‘tabs compare’.

A Google spokesperson said: “When you’re shopping online, you’ll likely find yourself jumping between multiple tabs to read reviews and research prices. It can be cumbersome doing all that back-and-forth tab switching, and online comparison is something we hear users want help with.”

The final new AI search feature is one that made me say “Why wasn’t this always a feature?”.

Chrome history can already help you find your earlier searches and sites you’ve visited, but with a simple search, you can find your earlier searches and websites. It’s an optional feature that can easily be switched on or off depending on your preferences.

Social Media

AI, AI, AI. As has been the case for the past few weeks now, AI continues to dominate social media with more AI features coming to Reddit and Meta.

Meta

I’m not entirely sure who’s been asking for this, or what data Meta has that suggests that users want this, but any user in the US can now create their own AI bots, built on Meta’s systems.

And I don’t mean an AI avatar of yourself, I mean a completely new AI character.

As you can see from the examples above, these custom AI bots are bots for you to chat with, based on your interests and what you have built them for

Reddit

Reddit is doubling down on efforts to improve its ad tools, with the acquisition of Memorable AI, which uses AI and machine learning to analyse user reactions to create more effective ads.

As you can see with these ad response factors above, it uses these to enable its system to offer more effective guidance on what makes ads work and how you can boost your campaign performance.

A Reddit spokesperson said: “Through this acquisition, Reddit advertisers will have access to Memorable AI’s best-in-class tools to enhance their campaign planning and drive higher performance. As we integrate Memorable into our ad stack, our partners will be able to see performance benefits from creative insights from previous ads, better creative effectiveness, and automation that guides their creative towards maximum performance and return on ad spend.”

Threads

Threads has gained serious momentum as the user growth rate has tripled over the past month, with total users now reaching over the 200 million mark.

It’s suspected this is partly due to the increase in right-wing accounts which have gained increased traction on X, which may have pushed more people over to Threads instead.  Threads User Graph
